Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness
Project Info
Conceptual movie poster design for Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, created as a fictional sequel poster for an existing film franchise. The project focused on illustration, visual continuity, and building a believable promotional design that connects back to the world established in the original Warcraft film.
Project Details
The poster centres on an illustrated depiction of Blackrock Mountain, using the environment as the primary visual anchor for scale and atmosphere. Rather than following character-driven fantasy poster conventions, the composition shifts emphasis toward setting, allowing the landscape to carry the narrative weight.
The layout draws from modernist and Swiss-influenced principles, particularly in its use of structure, spacing, and typographic hierarchy. The grid-based composition and restrained use of type create order against a highly expressive, textured illustration style. This contrast allows the poster to retain the energy of the Warcraft universe while avoiding the visual noise typical of fantasy key art.
Colour is used deliberately, with a limited red-orange range reinforcing heat, tension, and environment without introducing unnecessary variation. Supporting elements, including actor credits and film metadata, are integrated to reflect real-world poster conventions and strengthen the sense of continuity with the original film.
The result is a hybrid approach that combines illustrative fantasy with controlled, modernist layout decisions, producing a sequel concept that feels both grounded and distinct within the genre.
